SLATS
Started Slat assemply right after finishing flaperons on 11/02/01
In the manual they tell you to cut the eight pieces of std "L" to
create the nose rib attach brackets. I cut all eight pieces from one piece of
std "L" and then realized that the piece i had left over was to short
to be used by the slat skin. I am not sure but if you cut the pieces of attach
brackets from each pieces of std "L" provided you will not have to
splice the last piece for the last slat. I had to splice mine. When I spliced
it added two short doublers to it to give it integral strength instead of just
butting them up and riveting them. This worked fine but i would of done it the
other way if I had thought ahead enough!

Monday November 27th, 2001 Spent 1 hr. Riveting Outboard slat bottom section 9pm-10pm. I feel i could have put more curvature in the slat but decided to leave it as is. Will check it on the wing. I can aways drill the rivets out and redo if i must. Problem is that I will want to do the other side the same way.! Also I ordered the wing kit today should be shipping the week of christmas. Spoke to Nicholas Heinz about fuel tanks and posted a question about building your own tanks on the Zenith List. Got a nice respone from Gary Liming with a great link to his site. Think I will follow his suggestions! Link to Garys site here
Riveted the last slat this week 12/13/01 SLats are done to the point where they need to be assembled, this needs to be done when the wings are finished and most likely on the fuselage. My wings are on the way! Added another two feet to my table on each end I have a twelve foot table now the two foot sections are on spring hinges and i have arms that extend like a leaf on a dining room table. Looks level but I bought a laser level which I will use to reset the table once i start the wings.
